[X4U] update iTunes library after whacking tunes

I don't see how (either in menus or in Help) how/whether iTunes can be 
made to update its window after I remove songs from the iTunes folder 
in the Finder.

My drive has only so much space...I'm using a Pismo running 10.3.9 as 
my iTunes machine..

Do I have to "trick" iTunes by moving the surviving songs into a new 
folder and telling iTunes that THAT is the new library?
