[X4U] Point -n- Shoot recommendations?

I'm going to inveigh against Canon.

Not that the feature set and their promise isn't good…it's the actual function in practice and the final image that I have a beef with.

The picture quality isn't lousy; it's simply "OK." IF you are good with "OK" then, onto the features.

there's a startling lack of user control…TRUE user control The Canon tries to "help" you at every turn. OK for a point and shoot, but it makes some bad decisions about exposure and focus that you can't circumvent.

there are times when our canons (we have 2 canon point and shooters) simply will NOT focus on what you want.

you can turn it off, you can try try again, but it's little brain decides it knows better and that's that..end of story.

the video taking capabilities actually aren't bad at all…we've found we get a LOT of stuff on a little chip, either video OR stills.

nutshell: if "OK" picture quality is acceptable, and if you can accept some photos you simply will not get into focus..if that's ok with you, go canon.

if not, continue looking.

my 2 cents.
