[X4U] iMac 20" recycle

I want to recycle the old one. It will not power up so I can erase the HD. I do not hear anything spinning. Would this be safe to recycle? 

My son said he would like to take a stab at it. Works with PCs and wants to learn more about Apple. Also found out that our local recycler will give you a certificate that the HD will be destroyed.

I want to thank everyone that offered help and would take the time to recycle.
