This is mostly motivated by the fact that my cell phone doesn't get very good reception in my new apartment and I would like to be able to leave the phone in a spot that does work while still roaming about. I'm hoping some of you can give me a recommendation for a relatively inexpensive, reliable, comfortable headset. Not that it should matter, but here is what I will be pairing with: Motorola V551 and a PB Ti with D-Link DWB-120M dongle. I've owned several BT headsets. From cheap to expensive and the best one so far is the Plantronics 510. I got the "S" model because it comes with a base station for the house phone so you can use it with both. It is one of the few BT headsets that will pair with a second devices. It is comfortable, has noise cancellation, good sound and the battery lasts long enough. I've recommended it to a lot of people and at least a dozen have gotten it and they all like it. YMMV. Importantly for me it works well with a Treo 650 and it's loud enough (problem on the Treos) Regarding your needs, however, I haven't found one that truly gives the 40 ft range so many claim...For 30 bucks you can try it and give it to your little brother if you don't like it..
