My DSL company, Speakeasy, includes 30 hours per month of national 
dialup as well as static IP addresses, live tech support, etc.

In most cases you do _not_ need to use the provided dialup software. 
Indeed I recommend always avoiding such software as it tends to just 
muck up your system.

You just need to find out the phone numbers, logon names and passwords, 
and DNS addresses to enter into your Mac's PPP control panel (System 
Preferences > Network > Modem > PPP in Mac OS X).
