The special digital hub copy of Macworld mag on the stands currently has an article talking about the various devices marketed for this purpose. The big drawback is that the affordable devices also use small windows and mpeg 1 or 2 to accomplish the transfer. A sale priced camcorder that uses the s-video jack and produces a digital signal would be the cheapest and best solution all the way around. you could even use this camcorder to create VHS versions for people without a DVD player. I get the various kinds of camcorders confused since I am just starting to play with video but a video expert friend told me there are "older" camcorders that will use the analog ports and output a digital signal. I can't remember if it is the Hi-8 or Digital-8.
