I bought a 450 Mhz DP G4 machine around three years ago for $1200, and
although I have gotten my use out of it, its now too slow to run most
modern apps and OSX adequately..
YMMV, but I would keep in mind that you will probably end up having to
get an upgrade card for it and figure that into the price when
comparing it to a new machine.. Considering that the current owner
probably paid over $2k for it, they rarely are willing to accept what
the thing is really worth..IMO ~ $500, or maybe a bit more if it has a
Super Drive..
Apple is still selling G4s - they cost around $1200.
But with the 64 bit G5 soon to be available for around $1700, all of
the older family of hardware is suddenly worth significantly less.
Unless you have some strong reason to run OS9 natively the new machines
are a better bet..
