your situation. If you use your iBook a lot you backup at the end of the day
and once a full (complete) backup at the end of the week.

If you're a moderate user once monday and once wednesday should be enough.

If you're a casual user, once a week or once a month should be enough.

I have an image of my system files done with Carbon Copy Cloner in case I
need to restore. I'm a professional user, remember. I need the iBook. In
your case I think it's too much of a trouble and reinstalling is maybe more
simple. As a side note, I haven't reinstalled anything ever since I bought
the iBook. If you do, you should look for the problem else where.

Just make sure to backup your home folder, the one with the home icon.
That's where all your files are.

An investment to be made in your case is an external FW HD for these backups
of the size of your iBooks HD at least!
