[P1] Mac OS X seems not very stable after all

I haven't had to do this much since Jaguar but pre-Jag I found that 
holding down the Option+Command keys and then pressing the esc key, 
sometimes several times, worked best.

also make sure you haven't assigned something to your esc key via 
quickeys or other program.
