Probably you know both these bits already, but if so, the
advanced Mac "delete key" technology will take care of it
without too much effort . . . .
Agfa does have an OS X driver that works with these scanners, in
spite of its being unsupported.  I just installed it this week
and it worked better than the OS 9 version.  Of course, all I do
is scan an occasional document, so I can't say how it integrates
with anything.   There is also some shareware program that claims
to handle many different scanners on OS X.  I think it's VueScan:
