Long file names in OS 9

Hi all,

I'd have a question.

I have to move some hundreds of files from my iceBook (running Mac OS X.2)
to my old Power Mac (running Mac OS 9.1), but unfortunately all these files
feature names too long for Mac OS 9, so I'd have to rename them all,
shortening their file name somehow.

Doing this manually would take a lot of time: does anyone know if there is
any smart utility which does it automatically (that is, an utility
performing a sort of «batch file name truncating for Mac OS 9»)?
