CD size?

I lack one CD backup and it's my System which is 614.8 MB or so and I'm 
trying to move it to a 700MB CD, but it just won't go.  Toast doesn't 
tell me it is too big, but I just get the endless ball and nothing 
happens.  Is it too big, or do I have another problem?  Is there a way 
to 'trim' my system to make it fit?  I'm sure I have lots of unneeded 
stuff in there, but I don't know what and so don't know another way.

Any thoughts?
