OT: Software Licensing

What happens when you upgrade to a faster machine or your mac is stolen 
or rendered inoperable for some unforeseeable reason? Will this more 
restrictive licensing scheme allow you to transfer your apps? Are the 
apps forever doomed to remain on the computer they were installed? Will 
I have to fork out more money for apps to just transfer them when all I 
want is a faster machine?
