DVD Region encoding

Here in Australia there have been several big cases on
the use of regional encoding on DVD's and games. LAst
year the ACCC (Australian consumer affairs basically
,cant remeber what it stands for anyway..) declared
that regional encoding was anticompetative and thus
illegal with in australia. Even before this however
there was wide spread sales of region free players,
even big chains and dept stores such as Grace
Brotheres an Harvey norman had them on sale.

The other case last year as well deemed that the sale
and use of mod chips in game consoles was legal in
australia. Pretty much because if you bought the
hardware then you have every right to do what ever you
damn well please to it. Although it is still illegal
to copy for anything other than back up purposes.
