panther on 600MHZ ibook?

Hello,

Does it make sense to put panther on a 600MHZ 14" ibook (640MB ram, 20 GB HD)?  Will it slow my little G3 to crawl?  I'm running 10.2.8 now and don't think that I'll need any of the new bells and whistles (I use Terminal, Mail, Mozilla Firebird with perl, apache/mod_perl, mysql and  - mainly as a unix box with mac gui) but I can tell that I'll eventually be overwhelmed by all the panther hype and want to try it - I didn't think that I'd ever install jaguar :-)
