How to prevent iBook 500 from dying (formerly [P1] Red brick, green brick)

how did your iBook 500 died? I have the exact same iBook and I hope it 
doesn't die on me too. Are there ways to prevent this from happening? 
The only problem i had with this ibook was I had to replace the HD 
because it was defective.
