[P1] Apple modem on hold?

I use a scanner, but it hasn't had this effect for me. The only time the
modem seems to hang is when a fax doesn't go thru for some reason or other.
I'm looking forward to the problem happening again so I can try quitting the
app another lister pointed out that I'd find in Process Viewer.

Thanks,
Brian
