What's the skinny on windows media player for mac?

Has anyone successfully installed windows media player for mac? I've 
downloaded it twice, and both refuse to install on my ibook 800 G3. I 
have a fairly robust software assortment, in addition to running OS 
10.3.3; but trying to install this program gets me the big nothing... 
no "need access privileges," no error messages, nothing. It just acts 
like its launching (the "genie" effect) and then nothing.

Got any suggestions?
