As a recent purchaser of my first iBook, I went with the 12". My 
previous laptop was a 1400c with a G3 upgrade so the change is big. But 
I was comfortable with the small screen and wanted the most compact Mac 
I could get. I have a G4 desktop & 17" monitor that I added a KVM 
switch to so I can use the iBook with the monitor if I want. If I had 
been intending to use the iBook as my only computer, I would have gone 
with the 14".
