Not exactly, while it is true that Tiger is only available to buy on a DVD
you can send it back to Apple and for a minimal price (of the CD-R's and
shipping) they will send you the necessary Tiger CD's instead.

BTW, the Apple site is updated and now includes Pismo's (with Firewire).

I expect that Tiger requires Firewire because of great new technology that
HD Video allows as well as video conferencing software like those found in
iChat AV and the new video codec H264 which would suggest a firewire
connection from a Digital Video Camera or iSight? (see grey requirements bit
at the end of the following link).
