[iBook] How to check battery charging of clamshell iBook?

A little more info:

I installed SlimBatteryMonitor. Using the old battery, it tells me that
the battery is charging, but stays at 0%. When I install the "new"
battery, I get the same result for a few minutes, then it says "Power
source not present".
