I agree. Basic os x shouldn't be that big at all. Hmmm. I'd look into that.

BTW if anyone's strapped for space macaroni can gain you 500Mb to a Gb by 
removing all unnecessary language localisations.

Something seems seriously amiss if your system software takes 18 GB of HD
space. I think mine weighs in at the 2-3 mark, with a few 3rd party apps
installed.
