NeoOffice (a Mac-ified version of OpenOffice) has a drawing component that might suit you. The word processor component certainly works a lot better than Word as well. http://www.neooffice.org/ -- Larry From alexandreleroux at gmail.com Fri Apr 6 04:44:38 2007 From: alexandreleroux at gmail.com (Alexandre Leroux) Date: Fri Apr 6 12:02:15 2007 Subject: [iBook] Drawing package suitable for Apple computers In-Reply-To: <236829DD-1BE6-482A-A902-FE13A66AB476@mac.com> References: <20070130203238.02EF884157F@listserver.themacintoshguy.com> <236829DD-1BE6-482A-A902-FE13A66AB476@mac.com> Message-ID: <60882c360704060444h1bf94a5at740a960cce1cf6d2@mail.gmail.com> Hi Sean, There's a lot of mature open source options (which may or may not suit your needs): - The Gimp: http://www.gimp.org - I use it almost everyday. Yes it's different from Photoshop (e.g. different menus and windows layout) but once you 'know where things are', it's as useful/usable as Photoshop. (well, of course, Photoshop has some more advanced features and integrates with the CS suite, but you can't beat the Gimp's price ;-) - Inkscape: http://inkscape.org/ - This is an Adobe Illustrator open source copy. Works very well (though I haven't done that much work with it). - Scribus: http://www.scribus.net/ - that's if you're looking for an InDesign type of software. This is for Page layouts. - OpenOffice Draw: htttp://www.openoffice.org - Yes, Draw is good enough for many needs! If you really want Aqua support, get Neooffice, otherwise, the X11 versions of OpenOffice works flawlessly. Have a look here: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/store/authorization/ and maybe do a Google search on logic board replacement iTunes authorization. Any stories of upgrading logic boards of any sizes in ibook G4s for that matter? I'd be interested to hear your stories. I've read some places that ibook logic boards of different processor sizes can't be trusted to fit. I'm just trying to verify this with someone who has attempted the repair themselves. I've been highly successful at upgrading processor speeds in PowerBooks, no I'm hoping it's the same in ibooks. I'd wager the performance benefit this would confer would not be worth the effort. You'd be looking at sometihng like a 5% speed boost, at a guess. If you have a spare logic board, chuck it in a custom case, and make a desktop with it, retining your current 1GHz iBook. my 2c, -Gus
