I see what you are doing. It is an approach that I hadn't considered. I
assumed that you were using Sandisk cards of one type or another and
downloading directly from them. You could look into the speed of these
cards. SanDisk produce some fairly fast cards.

USB, whatever their speed are dependant upon the CPU. When USB2 is
advertised with speeds of 480mbps. This speed only occurs under ideal
situations when your computer's cpu isn't doing something else at the same
time. So, in theory, the faster the CPU, the faster the downloads.

Firewire on the other hand is considered slower at 400mbps. However Firewire
isn't dependant on the processor, so it is consistently faster.

This is just my view, possibly there are others on this list that might
venture an opinion.
