[iBook] won't print from classic

I have a G3 iBook 700Mhz 256 RAM, OS 10.2.8 and I am runnning Word 98 
on Classic. When I go to print  a new printer icon pops up and it 
says the printer is not connected etc. The only way I have been able 
to print is to close down and start up in Classic. I don't want to do 
that.  Why wont the iP6000D USB print in OS 9?
