Ken,

So, I'm thinking it's the G4 iBook that was introduced in April, 
2004. That model shipped with a DVD reader. If yours doesn't have 
one, then either it was removed or else there was an education 
version that I don't know about that was CD only.

Can you look in System Profiler to see what it says about the optical 
drive? That may tell us for sure.
