Guess us iBookers are a diminishing breed as folks upgrade. Looks like I'll be around for awhile until I gather the shekels to upgrade myself. I do most of my work on my MacBook which is approaching two years old now. But I'm glad I decided not to sell my G4 iBook (800 MHz) when I bought the MacBook. I keep it in the master bedroom at a desk and it's very handy to access there and also handy to use on the couch when I just need to web surf or check e-mail. I bought it in November 2003 and it doesn't make the cut for Leopard so it's still on Tiger, but that allows me to use my .mac account to keep both machines synced as far as Address Book, iCal and Safari Favorites are concerned so I'm happy. And a jump drive allows me to transfer files quickly so I sometimes even take it out with me to a bookstore coffee shop to do some writing or editing. I imagine it has some life left in it since my September 2001 (September 11, to be exact) G3 iMac is still chugging alone just fine as well. Or should I say, Yo diminishing gang! I still use my 600mhz iBook every day and it has been a dependable trooper. However it is getting as long in the tooth as I am. In computer years I guess that would make it an elderly statesman of laptop computing. It is getting slow and much of the new software doesn't work on it that well. So I am saving up my Canadian dollars to get a new Mac of some sort. I like owning two Macs at a time, so I will be getting a new tower too. But I do wish there were cheaper Mac towers available as I don't really need an iMac style monitor. I use two LaCie CRTs for the moment and they are great for any graphics apps. But I also don't need the high speeds of the eight core models either. Owning the two Macs have saved my butt on more than one occasion. Many of my friends are still using their old iBooks that are even older than mine. So even when I get something newer, I don't intend to get rid of my old machines. I have found this list very useful over the years that I have been a member. Don't count out the iBook users yet! I am a junior Computer Science major at Jmaes Madison University, and I use my 700 MHz G3 with 640 MB ram for ALL of my coding projects, as well as for every other class, including image manipulation, word processing, etc. This is the most useful machine I've ever owned, and I really don't see the point in upgrading, when this device works so well! However I use VLC to view videos on my 600mhz iBook and it works quite well. Not perfect, but OK considering. I also use Mplayer too. Sometimes you have to try one or the other. By and large it covers video issues for me. Bill
