[iMac] Upgrading from MAC OS9

I have an imac computer that I upgraded from 9.0 to 9.2. Well something happened and I
ended up back in 9.0 which I was told was a terrible system. It freezes up almost
continuosly. Can anyone explain how to get back up to 9.2. I know you have to do it
gradually going through several version in between. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.
