[iMac] When does Bluetooth become active ?

Some keyboard shortcuts are used during startup to modify the boot process. For instance, Command - S will invoke 'Single User' mode. See here...

Oftentimes there is a delay in the action, and I am not sure if I got the timing right. I have an iMac 3.06 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running OS X 10.6.7 with a wireless Bluetooth keyboard.

Question --- When does the Bluetooth become active during the boot process??
