From becca_price at yahoo.com Thu Aug 2 18:54:27 2007 From: becca_price at yahoo.com (Becca Price) Date: Thu Aug 2 18:54:32 2007 Subject: [iTunes] iTunes won't import mp3s anymore Message-ID: <460349.60364.qm@web39615.mail.mud.yahoo.com> all of a sudden, I can't import mp3 files from a Brilliance audiobook: I try to "add file" or I try to "import file" and select the file(s) to bring in, and *sometimes* it appears that iTunes is doing something (but as often as not, it just sits there) and the files don't come in. This is getting really frustrating. the technique that Brilliance suggests, to import the playlist file, doesn't work either. I *think* it dates from my attempt to update my copy of iTunes to 7.3, but I'm not sure. anybody have any suggestions as to what's going on and how to fix it? (I've tried re-downloading iTunes and re-installing it, but that doesn't work.) thanks, Becca, resigned to not being able to take her new books on her vacation with her this time, but hoping to fix the problem when I get back. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Fussy? Upgrade your operating system to Windows XP, and then spend some time downloading the numerous patches, fixes and upgrades to XP. You will avoid constant frustration and irritation by doing so. If you don't believe me, call up a repair shop and ask them it they would let a family member use ME. Another possibility is to sell your computer and buy a Mac. Apple created the iPod, iTunes and although they eventually ported it over to Windows, it all works much better within the Mac operating system. Its effortless. I won't help my friends who have Windows machines any more, I've switched over to Macs and they are so much easier to support I just can't be bothered with the constant insanities of Windows. No spyware, no adware, no trojans, no virus, no worms on a Mac. Don't have to buy those virus and spyware protection programs, don't have to put up with the slow downs they cause. You don't mention what happens when you try to download iTunes, or what error messages you have, or any hints at all. Your request is a little like someone asking for their car to be fixed, but don't say what kind of car they have or what kind of problems they have or when it happens or what noise it makes. There's just not much to go on. You could just try again another day, sometimes the server you are contacting is overloaded. For the first time in over 20 years of using computers I had a hard drive crash. The funny thing is it happened just as I was setting up a new 1TB NAS drive to back up my 300MB external that had all of my music and my iTunes library on it. So now I have an iPod with about 75GB on it and no library or music on my computer. To add to the problem, I believe that I did not change the iPod back to manual sync after my last sync, but I'm not certain. I am very fearful that a misstep will cause the iPod to get wiped out. Any suggestions about how to salvage what is on my iPod and re-create my iTunes library from the iPod would be much appreciated. I'm running 10.4.10 on an Intel machine with iTunes 7.3.2. I am sorry you have lost so much, but I am incredulous that you have been using computers for 20 years but didn't have a backup. The newer versions of iTunes now even nag you to backup your library. > I have an iPod with about 75GB on it and no library or music on my > computer. Senuti is one such application. Others include http://macs.about.com/od/ipod/a/copy_from_ipod.htm Just enter "transfer songs from iPod" into Google and you will get lots of hits. -- Michael Prete _____________ More will be revealed
