[iTunes] Questions on Apple Lossless

Hello,

I have a couple of CD's with mono recordings. When I import it using
Apple Lossless, the resulting files show to be stereo. Is it a normal
behavior?

Also, would it make any difference it Apple Lossless allowed to
convert using 20bit instead of 16bit and 48,000 kHz instead of 44,000?
I have a couple of Sony CDs produced using 20bit technology. How much
do I loose (if anything) by allowing Apple Lossless set its own
settings automatically?
