The video was captured and cut in iMovieHD and then exported there with expert option to h.264, 320*240, 12fps, 32K audio. I can play the resulting video just fine on my Mac and also on several of my PC's with anywhere from Windows 2000 to Windows XP SP2. All with various QT versions (no older than 7 though). However, my parents in Germany, which just bought an iMac (Intel) a year ago cannot play the videos. They upgraded their OS to 10.4.11 and installed QT 7.4 and still were not able to play it. In the browser (I had embedded it in a website) they couldn't see it - just the famous "?" .... in Safari and Firefox). I had specifically chosen h.264 to encode, since I thought it was a substantial codec and any QT should be able to play it ..... especially on a Mac. Well, eventually I told them to install the 3ivx codec (because I thought it might help in decoding) and voila, now they can see it. Still, I found it odd that they had problems viewing it .... maybe one of you can help? I uploaded one of the videos here: http://www.chocolateriewanders.com/file_junction/mexico/vulkan.mov Thank you for reading .... Wilhelm PS. I did also encode videos straight from QT with the above mentioned settings (and yes, I can view them on four different computers here at home) From rdmyers at anzavalley.net Sun Mar 2 09:49:49 2008 From: rdmyers at anzavalley.net (Rodney D. Why not convert the QT to something more generic, like an MPeG or AVI Personally, I have always had problems with QT, but not with mpeg, mp4, or avi. -- Rodney D. A current video project is destined for DVD. I set up my MacBook as a portable editing station, edited the video in FCE, then discovered that my low end MacBook does not burn DVDs! I have two older Macs with SuperDrives, and all three are networked together. In the past, if I recall correctly, I would create a "reference movie" in FCE, then drag this into my iDVD project. I'm afraid that if I move a reference movie to another Mac, all the links to the clips will be broken. So what's the best way to move the DVD project to a different Mac for DVD burning? I do have a copy of Toast 6 that I've never used, if that helps. Thanks, Steve R. Instead of burning a DVD, tell it to save an image of the DVD. Copy that image file to a Mac that has a DVD burner, and use Disk Utility to burn it. I have burners on both my MacBook and my old iMac. Recently I had to burn a large quantity of DVDs. Because my MacBook is faster, I used iMovie and iDVD on that Mac. Then I had iDVD save the DVD as an image file. I copied that file to my iMac. Then I used Disk Utility on both Macs to burn DVDs on both Macs concurrently. Worked just fine. -Gordon On Mon, Mar 3, 2008 at 7:46 AM, Steve Robertson wrote: > Hi Folks, > > It has been a couple of years since I needed to burn a DVD. I've been using an ION USB turntable for about a year with good results.? My intel iMac had no problem recognizing it.? The Audacity software supplied with it is straightforward.? I have several thousand vinyl albums to digitize.? It's a bit more time consuming than I first imagined.? The real time play-through of the album is enjoyable.? I hadn't played the albums much lately and forgot how short an album side is.? The only tedius part for me is, after the digital files have been created, to attach song titles to the tracks.? It's no big deal, and is well worth the little extra effort.??The rub is that?I don't typically practice good organizational skills and the extra step takes me?about a click or two beyond my attention span. As for finished product, I don't spend any time cleaning up the tracks beyond the basic noise reduction.? Whatever pops and crackles remain after that I just leave in.? Actually, they're a nice anachronistic touch when they play through the ipod. Hope this is of some use to you.
