The dimmer controls seem to come from the speaker grill and Fn 9 and F 10 have some control over brightness. Some nights it will be lighted all the time . Others I have to slide my hands on the speakers and up the brightness on F9. Sometimes I get a grey outline with a circle, which of course means no lighted key board. Is there a way to just set it for what I like or does it have a mind of it's own and dim as it feels like it.. Message-ID: <9A837BEE-7332-4F4A-AE56-78239D6509DF@wacondatrader.com> Anyone here have a MacBook or MacBook Pro? I'm looking at replacing an older iBook with one of the white MacBooks, but was wondering how they compared with overheating problems? My old iBook G3 900 has been in the shop about 5 times for extended AppleCare work. I realize this is a "PowerBook" list, but didn't know if it was OK to discuss the MacBook & MacBook Pro or not, since they are replacing the iBook and PowerBook lines. I have a macbook pro.I just upgraded from a 12" powerbook 867. The greatest heat seems to come while using and charging the macbook pro at the same time. if it is plugged in and the battery is charged no worries. If it is running from the battery no worries. However if it is charging while you are using it it is hot as hell. The pro should handle the heat significantly better because of the cooling properties of aluminum. That plastic is just too insulating. Oddly, if your machine has more RAM the macbook pro seems to run a hair cooler. -- Ross Winn, Freelance Geek "I was of two minds when I saw the Scanner Darkly RPG, then I realized that was the point." It's way more active than this list, and it deals with all types of Mac hardware questions. There have been tons of posts about all aspects of the new Macs there.
