There are several reports of successfull installation of 80 and 120 GB drives in G4's like your friend's at www.xlr8yourmac.com. See http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/IDE/add_2nd_drive/ for a guide to adding a second drive to Macs like it. Even if he/she is replacing the original drive it should be helpful.
