Adding a hard drive

First post to this list - hi everybody!

I'm thinking of adding a new hard drive to my stock cube, mostly 
because the original one feels really slooow to me (20 GB Western 
Digital, i think).

What do you think would be the best option for a replacement with 
regard to speed improvements? (should be silent, too :-)

And: Do you think adding a faster hard drive requires putting a fan 
into my Cube, or is heat not an issue with hard drives?
