what do the log files say? fsck will fix some problems with the disk, mac janitor just runs the daily, weekly, and monthly cron jobs, so that won't fix anything. i would read over the logfiles to see what messages are being written there during boot, and otherwise that might give you a clue as to what's going on. then perhaps i'd try an archive and install of 10.2 again, then update to 10.2.5, and lastly, i'd check the ram (swap it with other ram to determine which the machine likes) as the other reply suggested.
