We have a very weird version of the problem at one stage. At about 3 am, I would be woken from sleep by the Mac startup chimes. Sometimes this would happen three times in one night. The whole effect was really very spooky. We eventually tracked down the source of the problem: our cat was sitting on top of the Cube and turning it on and off. We now shut the cat out of the office. Incidentally, when I opened the Cube recently, it was cleaner than any other computer I've seen - not even any cat hair.
