1920x1200 is the native res of the monitor, yes.  In the case of this
tech note, Apple spells out under different headings the behavior
of the card when mated with different monitors. In this case of the
23" HD, 1920x1200 is not a native mode for the CARD because it
maxes out at 1600x1200 when mated with a digital display,

So it looks like Apple is supporting the resolution via stretching in
the driver.
