i still feel that 9 is faster, from what i've seen (when i first bought the cube, it had os 9 on it, which i promptly removed). it's just that os 9 or any mac os prior to X is so phenomenally unstable, and without very basic OS features such as true multitasking, memory protection, native tcp, not an extension, and being a true multi-user system. OS 9 still has faster window redraws, scrolling, window resizing, menu performance, etc... - but it's not worth it. and it's ugly (imo). the gui performance may be there, but the under the hood fundamentals of OS 9 are horrible. now, os X gui performance is catching up somewhat, and using 9 will seem more and more silly, with no arguments left for its use at all. this is what apple would like of course, but applications that some rely on are not there yet, but once they are, there's no reason to run os 9 on "new world" hardware anymore. all, in my opinion, of course.
