thanks for your tips - as i'm always very afraid of data loss, i already cloned my osx disk with ccc booted up from the clone and tried HD utility again - no hope, the errors were not disappearing. i'm now going for one of the recommended programs and feel safe with my backup on my external FW HD. it's just interesting that i recently upgraded to this new seagate barracuda IV 80 GB. my old 20 GB disk never had unreparable problems. hm... thanks a lot.
