You didn't say what size the new memory was, but if it was 512 MB the problem may have been the number of chips per bank in the SDIMM. Much of the really inexpensive memory out there will only work with certain PC chipsets which support AMD CPUs. Other memory is dense enough (fewer chips with more memory per chip) that it only works with motherboards of newer PCs and Macs that know how to talk to it correctly. Your best bet is to buy from a store or web site that will verify that the memory you're getting will work in your model of Mac. OWC (www.macsales.com) generally has good prices. Phil
