Alex - I've been using Canon products since the late 70's and have NEVER been disappointed. Depending on your price range, the Elura 40MC is a great small unit. I have the original Elura, which is about 3.5 years old, and at the time went for around 1,200.00 USD. The 40MC is now in the 750.00 USD range, and is about 20% smaller. If price is a big factor, check out the ZR40 or other ZR models. The 40 can be found for under $400 USD over here. And all Canon DV camcorders are FCP compliant. As for the price of DV tapes, I can find them for around $3 USD these days.
