I can't answer your questions about the displays, but as far as whether 
you need a fan, that's tough to know. I'd try running it without one 
and see if it overheats. I ran my cube with a GF2 without a base fan 
for a while. It never overheated, but adding a low poer fan made it run 
much cooler. The fan's not going to do much to dissapate heat around 
the graphics card anyway, but it will cool the core. If the graphics 
card heats up the core much (like a GF2 or GF3) then it will benefit 
from the fan.

p.s. if you drop the voltage on a good, quiet fan, it'll be almost 
silent. Mine's running at 7v and you can't hear it.
