Apple's highest margins come from the displays. It means, quite simply, that Apple has been laughing all the way to the bank for each 3K unit sold, making quite a bit of dough on them. the 17" is older and i can understand cutting the price on it as i'm sure their costs have gone down on them quite a bit over time. 17" lcds in general have gone done steadily for quite a while now. 'bout time apple passed this cost reduction along to its consumers. but for the 1500 drop - whew. i noticed.
