It might be right around the corner:

"The first PowerPC 7457 processors are now sampling from Motorola, at 
1.3GHz. Apple already has Powerbooks well past the prototype stage 
running these CPUs quite reliably, and has even run at few at 1.4 and 
1.5GHz. If you hadn't already guessed by the processor speed 
increments, these babies are running 200MHz frontside busses. Whether 
Apple will run them at 200MHz or merely 167MHz at first is still under 
heavy debate...."
