[CUBE] trouble with external floppy drive w/ my cube

I bought a floppy drive and hooked it up via USB.  I wanted to salvage some 
photos and articles I had stored on floppies by transferring them to the hard 
drive.  No joy; most of the files aren't readable, even by the app that created 
them in the first place.  I don't know if it's the drive or OSX; I suspect 
maybe the operating system.
