actually, that's a sym link, not a config file.  and moving the home 
directory this way is absolutely the wrong way to go about putting your 
home directory on a different volume, but that's another argument.

oh, and when you change preferences via a gui on os9, where do you 
think they are stored ultimately?  (in text files - it's just that you 
can't see them, which is bad).
