Nope, doesn't hurt - although by replacing what's there with anything other than a 512, you're kind of wasting the slots. Although RAM isn't as cheap as it was a year ago, it's still pretty good (512's are about $70 or so at OWC for example), and you'll get a much better bang for the buck if you install a 512 in one or more slots (all of them if you can swing the dough).
