New HDD problems

I've got a 120Gb Western Digital Caviar HDD to put into my Cube; I've 
tried different jumper settings (master, master with slave, and cable 
select) to no avail - When I boot from the System install CD (I've 
tried it with both System 9.2.2 and 10.2) the Installer cannot find a 
volume to install to.  This is just like the old days when Apple Drive 
Setup had to be hacked to recognise non-Apple branded SCSI disks!

I've tried the HDD in a PC (yes, I have a foot in the Dark Side camp 
too) and it is recognised so the disk does not seem to be faulty.

What am I missing?  Should the HDD be set to slave???

Any help appreciated.
