What is the firmware revision of your drive. I am just talking through experience, not just me, but from many, many other cube owners out there. I don't want to give the reader a false impression that they will be able to buy this and it will work in the cube. The firmware numbers are different, that means THE FIRMWARE IS DIFFERENT. > The problem is in the Cube firmware and it's interaction with the > driver frameworks that Apple provides. Patchburn allows the non-supported drive to be used as a supported drive (but editing the framework/driver/whatever) > If you want to find out more about this stuff, check the best source > for the info, the Firmware Page at http://forum.rpc1.org/ rather than > relying on second hand information. I am well aware of this site, and it rarely mentions the this drive for the mac -- and when it does, it is almost NEVER for the cube. Another site to refer to is http://superdrive.cynikal.net/ -- this drive was made for people that have TRUE apple installed UJ-815 drives (with the APPROPRIATE apple firmware). This site allows UJ-815 drives that used to be only 1xDVDR to be upgraded to 2xDVDR. The firmware located at the bottom of the page will not work with PC-Based firmware. It only allows to upgrade previous apple firmware.
